Ready, set, go! What to expect in the first week of the DDS program
The general events most schools arrange for incoming DDS students, and what I learned from my own first weeks at UCSF.

Start your DDS program
You made it. The first weeks are orientation, logistics and a lot of new systems, followed by two or three very busy months. A little organization up front goes a long way.
At this stage
- Set up your ID card, school email and learning portal
- Learn the clinic software early (ask senior students)
- Organize your instrument kits before simulation lab starts
- Sort out scrubs, laptop and health insurance (waive if you have your own)
- Plan meals and workouts for the long hours ahead
